After our stop at Nickel Mania, my boys wanted to go back to the hotel to lift weights. Since I'm not really supposed to do that any more post-heart surgery, my wife and I dropped them off and decided to go out to an location that was right down the street from where we were staying, Quarters Arcade Bar.
Like many arcade bars, particular in urban settings, Quarters is located on the lower, basement level of a building, right in the middle of Salt Lake City. The venue contains a great mix of classic arcade games and pinball machines. As you can tell from the "Bar" part of its name, it has a full liquor license with a number of beers on tap and a bunch of cool mixed drinks. I had the former and my wife had the latter. The bartender was excellent. He took a lot of time and care in making the mixed drink for her.
For the middle of the day, there was a decent number of people playing pinball at Quarters. Interestingly, the location had a completely separate room next to the main arcade portion in which they were a streaming console video game tournament. That was neat to check out.
I didn't really play any of the vids, but many of the heavy-hitter classics were there, like Donkey Kong, Joust, etc... They had a cool, new (to me at least) Indy 4-player arcade game called "Armed and Gelatinus" as well as the awesome giant linked Killer Queen machines.
On the pinball side, everything that my wife and I played worked perfectly. I believe that they were charting a dollar per game, in quarters obviously, which is pretty standard these days. Most of the games that could had Stern Insider Connected enabled, so I spent the time running down the Stern lineup trying to hunt achievements on pins that I didn't have a lot of IC time on, like Stranger Things Premium, Black Knight Premium and Iron Maiden Pro. Beyond that, we played several games of the Stern Indiana Jones, which is a pretty rare machine to see on location and a little Walking Dead, which I've really been into lately.
Here's Quarters' current pinball lineup, courtesy of Pinball Map:
Avengers: Infinity Quest (Premium) (Stern, 2020)
Batman 66 (Premium) (Stern, 2016)
The Champion Pub (Bally, 1998)
Creature from the Black Lagoon (Bally, 1992)
Indiana Jones (Stern, 2008)
Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (Pro) (Stern, 2018)
Rick and Morty (Spooky, 2019)
Scared Stiff (Bally, 1996)
The Simpsons Pinball Party (Stern, 2003)
Stranger Things (Premium) (Stern, 2019)
Total Nuclear Annihilation (Spooky, 2017)
Twilight Zone (Bally, 1993)
The Walking Dead (Pro) (Stern, 2014)
White Water (Williams, 1993)
Nickel Mania and Quarters are the two arcades that my family and I hit in Utah. Both locations were great in their own way and are definitely worth visits if you find yourself in Utah. Next up are two Colorado locations that we visited on the way home.
