Random Stuff: Barrels of Fun Pinball Highlights New Horizon Atmospheric Lightning; Dune Pinball Coming Soon; Stern Pinball Places Rush in the Vault

Updated: Apr 8

This afternoon, Barrels of Fun highlighted a new feature on its upcoming second pinball machine. The new interactive feature is called "Horizon Atmospheric Lightning." They are essentially lit inner art blade rails. I hesitate to call them side rails because to me that implies that they are on the outside of a pinball cabinet, these are clearly intended to light the game's playfield.

Barrels of Fun will likely reveal its new game sometime next week.

Below is a video of the lightning in action.

In other Barrels of Fun news, there is now a site out there on the Interwebs called dunepinball.com.

It has been rumored for quite a while that Barrels of Fun's second game will be based on Dune, but we have not received official conformation from the Company yet. It's hard to say whether this will be an official Barrels of Fun website or an overeager distributor letting the cat out of the bag early by trying to get a jump on the competition. I'm personally leaning towards it being a distributor website. We'll see...

In other news, Stern Pinball announced this morning that it is placing its 2022 game Rush into its proverbial Vault. This means that Stern will not manufacture any new Rush pinball machines for a minimum of two years and that there is no guarantee that it will ever be produced again.

What a RUSH! It's been an incredible run for this award winning, game of the year.

As part of the Stern Vault Program, RUSH will be removed from active production and will remain in the vault for a minimum of two years without any guarantee of returning.

The full list of games currently in the Stern Vault include:

Deadpool

Iron Maiden

Star Wars

Star Wars Comic Art

Avengers: Infinity Quest

Elvira's House of Horrors

Foo Fighters

RUSH

it's Zach Meny from flipn'out pinball that has it registered. He also has registered basically any domain name for any theoretical pinball title that has been rumored.

I thought TMNT was also vaulted.

A few years ago, there was that batch of games that Stern allowed distros to not have to adhere to MAP pricing (TMNT, Rush, LedZep, the Home editions) to clear old stock in the warehouses. This was before the 'vault' program, but they feel 'honorary'. If they finished the quantity of Beatles in that last run, then I'd consider that a 'limited' title instead of 'vaulted'. All the other LEs like Bond 60th, Elvira BRK, JP 40th, etc. would be 'limited'. Other stuff falls back to 'retired', I guess. /shrug/

To be honest doesn’t look that impressive. Looks to not light up much of anything.
