Yesterday Spooky Pinball shared a picture of its cool new boxes, which I assume were designed by its now in-house artist Christopher Franchi.
The image on the boxes pretty clearly is a reference to the 1981 horror film "The Howling." There's chatter amongst pinball folks that this reference to the movie is a clue that it may be the theme for a future Spooky pinball machine.
What do you think? Here's my thoughts...I'm pretty sure that I know Spooky's next three or four titles. My guesses on those are Beetlejuice, Motorhead, Goonies (no I don't think that Barrels of Fun has Goonies despite them recently dropping clues that they do. Gerry from Multimorphic recently seemed to indicate that no one has it because of licensing restrictions. We’ll see) and one other that I cannot currently say (it's a good one). With Spooky basically releasing a game every December, this takes them out pretty far into the future already. [NOTE: None of these are confirmed, they are just based on rumors at the moment]
Having said that, Spooky has told us that they have licenses for something like 5 games in house at the moment. So it's possible that they'll do a game based on The Howling sometime way down the road. To me, as someone who really isn't a horror fan, The Howling seems to be on par with Evil Dead as a theme so I could see them doing it. At this point though, this is all just pure speculation based on Spooky's new cardboard box. At least it's fun to talk about lol.
