Look at a Predator Pinball Mech in Action; Harry Potter Sales Update; Happy Birthday Gary; Game of the Day

This morning the pinball YouTuber RetroCengo shared the first ever video of Pinball Predator's Predator pinball machine in action. It's only a small peek of course, but we get to see game's the "Chopper" helicopter ball lock. It looks significantly different than the helicopter ball lock that was featured in Pinball Brothers' last game ABBA.

Beyond this video, I have heard that Pinball Brothers may be making some changes to how it builds games. Rumor has it that it is switching from its own proprietary system to the FAST Pinball platform. I also have heard that they are switching to using Williams-style parts for the flippers and possibly other parts as well. I have not confirmed this information independently yet, but I've heard it from enough people to believe that it is true. We'll see for sure during Predator pinball's full reveal next Wednesday, June 18th.

The awesome YouTuber RetroRalph, who filmed the Featurette on Jersey Jack Pinball's latest game, Harry Potter, shared a follow-up video yesterday showing off a closer look at the Wizard Edition of the game.

The Wizard Edition is the middle tier of Harry Potter, essentially equivalent to a fancier Premium from Stern Pinball. I've spoken with a number of distributors about the game and Harry Potter is selling great so far. Interestingly, to me at least, I've been told that the $15,000 Collector's Edition of the game is significantly outselling the Wizard and Arcade Editions. The sub-$10K Arcade Edition has been the least purchased variant by a large margin. I must be a complete cheapo lol because with no gameplay variation between the trim levels at all, I personally would be going with the Arcade Edition all day.

Happy 80th Birthday to pinball industry legend Gary Stern!

GAME OF THE DAY

1998 SEGA Star Wars Trilogy upright arcade game.

The game has a number of different levels representing each of the first three films in the Star Wars series. Players pilot an X-Wing Fighter, ride a snow speeder on Hoth, play in a first-person shooter with a blaster and battle Darth Vader with a lightsaber.

The Star Wars Trilogy arcade game also came in a huge sit-down cabinet. It was released right around the same time as the SEGA Pinball game with the same name.

As seen at the Morristown Game Vault Arcade in Morristown, NJ.

what’s pathetic is that ABBA has a way better helicopter in it. That chopper is a joke. PB has yet to make a good game. I don’t count Alien.

Crazy HP CE’s are outselling the wizard and arcade editions. I just don’t see spending $15k for a CE when gameplay and the playfields are exactly the same.

Just so much money to pay for different artwork, topper, shaker, etc over the Wizard. Plus the wizard edition has a better topper, but that’s not saying much.

Theme is everything. Many buyers will never see the complete gameplay anyway.

The CE caters to those that have to have the highest priced toy.
