RUMOR: Masters of the Universe is No Longer Coming from American Pinball

Pinball conventions always are a ton of fun. Not only is there tons of games to play, there’s always lots of industry people hanging out and drinking together. You know what that means? A good rumor or two will always float out of them lol.

Here’s today’s rumor. I’m hearing that American Pinball does NOT currently have the license to make a game based on Masters of the Universe aka He-Man.

At one point they were in talks with Mattel to get the license, but no deal was actually officially completed. At this point it seems like AP just wants people to think that they have the license. The renowned pinball artist Christopher Franchi did do some He-Man art for American, but that art will likely never see the light of day on a commercially produced machine.

After the recent post by the former American Pinball employee and industry legend Dennis Nordman, we know that American Pinball does have a flipping whitewood for White Water 2 and a couple of other playfield layouts from him, but that relationship is clearly not good so I don’t expect to see those come out anytime soon. Beyond that and maybe a few things that Joe Balcer was working on when he was fired by AP, I don’t know of any games that are in the works there or licenses that whey have beyond Cuphead - which was delayed from it’s original planned debut at Pinball Expo.

That’s too bad because I really do think that Masters of the Universe would be a cool theme for a game and that a lot of people want a MOTU pin.

Keep in mind that the above is a rumor that I have heard from third parties. Having said that, I feel pretty confident that this information is correct.

These aren’t actually pictures of that art, just random pictures of He-Man dying that I found on the Internet, which I thought was appropriate for this article.

What makes you infer that Dennis Nordman's game at AP was Yukon Yeti? Deeproot had the rights to that work. It was the drawing design left at deeproot he mentioned in said post. I believe it was a different game he was making there.

Norman and Fix ego battle aside, you don't bump WH20 2 for barbecue.
