Stern Pinball’s Long-Time Art Director Greg Freres Retires

Yesterday Stern Pinball announced that its legendary art director Greg Freres has retired. Greg is an long-time industry veteran, whose amazing art has graces iconic pinball machines dating all the way back to the late 1970s. His portfolio includes Bally's 1981 artistic masterpiece Fathom and other well-known games including:


  • 1979 Bally Harlem Globe Trotters

  • 1980 Bally Rolling Stones

  • 1980 Bally Hotdoggin'

  • 1980 Bally Skateball

  • 1980 Bally Frontier

  • 1989 Bally Elvira and the Party Monsters

  • 1993 Williams Star Trek the Next Generation

  • 1995 Williams Jack*Bot

  • 1997 Williams Medieval Madness


And so many more...


Stern has appointed Sebastian Napoli to replace Greg as its new Art Director.

Inspiring to see someone retiring with much vibrancy left in their step. Greg has had the career of a lifetime and always floated above water. Good for him.


I’d like an interview where he is asked to compare how the artwork ends up on the game today vs 1979. Probably used a horse and buggy to get to work, both ways.
